Entering its fifth year at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center, the 2014 Making Moves Dance Festival presents NYC's emerging dance companies for a two-part showcase featuring diverse and original works that span the globe and dance genres. The festival will take place Saturday, September 27th at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center, 153-10 Jamaica Avenue. There will be FREE performances during the afternoon outdoor presentations and an evening performance in which tickets are currently available for purchase online through the JCAL box office at www.jcal.org.
AFTERNOON SHOWCASE
2:00pm FREE Performance presented by the following companies
· Ballet Inc.: “Choreographer/Artistic Director Aaron Atkins founded Ballet Inc. in August 2012. The company's mission is to continuously create new ballets that remove boundaries, not reinforce them. Ballet Inc. strives to challenge those traditions that may limit a dancer due to his or her own body type or ethnicity.”
· CelloPointe Chamber music & Dance Company: “CelloPointe is a collaboration of contemporary ballet, New York choreographers and world-class musicians. We feel strongly about using live chamber music and dance on concerts.”
Jazz Roots Dance Company: “Jazz Roots Dance Company was formed in 2009 by Sue Samuels, Artistic Director and world-renowned Jazz Dance icon. The company is dedicated to the preservation of the classic jazz form, and aims to entertain and educate all generations about the roots of classic jazz dance.”
Nonalee Dance Theater: “NonaLee Dance Theatre was founded in May 2011 by artistic director, Angel Chinn. The company strives to give dancers of all backgrounds an opportunity to perform and grow artistically. NonaLee Dance Theatre with its athletic and dynamic movement, and futuristic concepts, not only present dance works, but create an experience that is memorable, thought provoking, and beautiful.”
Tislarm Bouie: “Tislarm's choreography was featured at The Young Choreographers and the Dumbo Dance Festival and on the Coca Cola Tour with Def Jam recording artist Karina Pasian. He is excited to see what "The love of his life" dance has to offer.”

360ยบ Dance Company: “Founded in 2007 by Artistic Director Martin Lofsnes, 360° Dance Company’s mission is to present classic modern dance masterpieces juxtaposed with original contemporary dance works, in order to simultaneously preserve and develop the modern dance lineage. Comprised”
In-Sight Dance Company: “In-Sight Dance Company is a contemporary ballet company based in Queens, NY. In-Sight Dance is a grassroots arts organization that strives for artistic excellence while serving its diverse Queens community. It is this two-fold mission that creates the unique dance organization that is In-Sight Dance. The company’s connection with its community cultivates an environment where it can create innovative artistic work that is accessible.” (*we should probably mention that they were in our dance residency program)
Project 44: ”Established in 2010, PROJECT 44 (Queens, NY) is an all male dance group that serves as the artistic platform for choreographer Gierre Godley. The company strives to erase all preconceived notions about masculinity and the role of a male performer in the arts. With a visceral approach to choreography, the works of PROJECT 44 aim to showcase the beauty, versatility, and athleticism of male performers. “
Dai, Jian: “New York-based Dai Jian is an artist from China with roots in contemporary dance, classical dance and martial arts. He creates improvisations, performance installations and visual art.”
Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning (JCAL) receives ongoing general operating support from the Mayor's Office, the Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, and the Queens Delegation of the New York City Council, the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, the New York State Council on the Arts. The Mertz Gilmore Foundation also supports JCAL Dance programs for the creation of unique works presented in underserved communities.
