BBQ in the Boros contest is back! Submit Now!

Get your grill on! Send your best BBQ recipe—including recipe name, prep time, cooking time, ingredients and ammounts, instructions, serving amount, and photo of completed dish—to fairwaybbq@nydailynews.com and you’ll be entered in the BBQ in the BOROS contest.
The top 25 BBQ recipes (5 from each borough) will appear in the June 19th BBQ in the BOROS Recipe Section and will be invited to a cook-off at the Harlem Fairway on June 26th to grill up the goodness. Cook-off contestants will receive a $100 Fairway gift card to buy all of their ingredients morning of the event and can use plates, pots, and certain electronics brought from home.
Judges will award one winner per borough as their borough's Grill Master.

From those five contestants a GRAND PRIZE WINNER will be decided.
One winner per borough to be named the Boro's Best Grill Master. Each of these top picks will win a $500 Fairway gift card and a $100 P.C. Richard & Son gift card.
Out of these top five, there will be one grand prize winner: NEW YORK’S GRILL MASTER. The grand prize winner will receive a $1,000 Fairway gift card, a $250 P.C. Richard & Son gift card, as well as a Weber gas grill valued at $1,000, courtesy of P.C. Richard & Son.
The recipe must include: recipe name, prep time, cooking time, ingredients & amounts, instructions, serving amount and photo of completed dish.

Queens Hot Spot Officially Opens Al Fresco Space, With a Nod from Queens Constituents




Kew Gardens, Queens, New York (May 19, 2014)-  Austin’s Ale House  announces the expansion of their existing outdoor dining space, and will officially open on May 29th , 2014. Guest speakers will feature Boro President Melinda Katz, Queens Chamber of Commerce President, Jack Friedman and Senator Joseph Addabbo. The al fresco patio features an expanded dining area and a pergola-covered communal seating space. The Owners, Mark Boccia, John Ryan and Tony Truzzolino are local Queens entrepreneurs, who collaborated with Community Board 9 and the MTA, are dedicated to beautifying the neighborhood and maintaining the existing green landscaping.  The expansion offers a unique setting that is best in class for al fresco dining and catering entertaining in the Western Queens perimeter.

The opening event will take place on the newly expanded patio, featuring a special beer tasting from their neighboring boro beer maven, Brooklyn Brewery, and an array of pub bites like Brooklyn Beer Braised Short Rib Sliders and a Mini Pulled Pork Mac & Cheese, created by new appointed Chef Matt Cookson.

BKLYN DESIGNS is Nearly Here!

Now in its 11th year, BKLYN DESIGNS is a juried exhibition of contemporary furnishings, lighting and home accessories. With thousands of visitors expected to attend over the three day weekend, this is one of the biggest design shows in New York City. Principally held at St. Ann’s Warehouse and Mark Jupiter’s in DUMBO, this year’s exhibition will expand to four additional locations in the neighborhood. 

 
"Design is a major piece of Brooklyn’s economy, and BKLYN DESIGNS is the place for our designers to showcase their products to an international audience," said Scissura. "This year we have upped the ante- featuring sixty designers in six venues, a speaker series, workshops and activities for the whole family." 
 
"I would like to congratulate our 60 designers on being selected for BKLYN DESIGNS, one of the Chamber’s signature events,"said Chamber of Commerce Board Chair Denise Arbesu. "Brooklyn’s design community is world-renown, and I cannot wait to see what the borough’s best will have to offer when the doors open on May 9."
 
This year’s Speakers’ Series will feature a conversation with WIRED Magazine’s Cliff Kuang, and a panel discussion moderated by NY Magazine’s Wendy Goodman. Traditionally held on Mother’s Day weekend, BKLYN DESIGNS will also feature activities including community yoga, Double Dutch, tours of Brooklyn Bridge Park, and outdoor kid-friendly activities.
